JACKSON POLLOCK WAS FREE WITH PAINT AND TEXTURAL SURFACES, WHICH IS ALSO PART OF MY FOCUS. JASPER JOHNS PAINTED A HUGE ALL WHITE AMERICAN FLAG THAT I VISITED IN MOMA. I WAS IN HEAVEN! THIS GAVE ME THE PERMISSION TO CREATE ENDLESS COLOR COMBINATIONS. MATISSE WAS ALSO CREATIVE WITH HIS LONG TOOLS, AND CUT OUTS....ANYTHING YOU POSESS CAN BECOME A TOOL! AS A RESULT, GESTURALISM IS WHAT I COME AWAY WITH.
THE PROCESSMY PREFERRED MEDIUM IS ACRYLIC; IT HAS A FAST AND SPONTANEOUS QUALITY THAT I FIND OILS AND WATERCOLORS LACK. THIS IS DESIRABLE BECAUSE I SPEND EVERY SECOND OF A PAINTING SESSION STANDING...YIKES!MY PHILOSOPHY IS TO ELIMINATE THE GAP FROM CREATIVE IMPULSE TO WHAT HITS THE CANVAS. I CAN WORK ON SEVERAL PIECES AT ONCE, GOING BACK AND FORTH BETWEEN THEM. THIS ALLOWS ME TO CHANGE MY PERSPECTIVE, AND ADS TO THE SPONTANEITY AND CREATIVE PROCESS. ( NOT TO MENTION...MESSY FLOORS)
MY TOOLS ARE ALSO VERY IMPORTANT, I USE LONG LARGE BRUSHES OR PALLETES TO APPLY, SCRAPE, AND LAYER PAINT. MY PAINTS ARE OF ARCHIVAL QUALITY, AND I STRETCH MANY OF THE LARGE CANVAS' TO GET THE DESIRED SIZE. THE WATERCOLOR PAPER YOU FIND ON MANY WORKS, IS FROM ITALY. THE FABRIANO PAPER MILL MADE PAPER THAT MICHELANGELO PAINTED WITH.
MY GOALS
FINALLY BEING ABLE TO SAY THAT I AM A PROFESSIONAL ARTIST, TOOK MANY YEARS. NOW THAT I AM COMFORTABLE IN THE GENRE, I REALIZE I HAVE BEEN AN ARTIST ALL MY LIFE.
I STILL FIND MYSELF CONSTANTLY REINTERPRETING THE MEANING OF ART AND ITS ROLE.
MY VISION IS TO CAPTURE A SMILE, OR BETTER YET CREAT ONE.
